1 Division Nigerian Army known, as "the first" is one of the Divisions established during the Nigerian civil war. The Division formerly known as the "First Infantry Division" was born out of the former " 1st Brigade" of the Nigerian Army which was later christened, " 1 Area Command".
The outbreak of civil hostilities in Nigeria in 1967 necessitated the creation of additional divisions of the nation's army.At the heat of the battle, a unique army division was formed, and was given a name that was synonymous to its terrain of operation.
81 Division is the youngest Division in the Nigerian Army. The Division was formed on 26 May 2002 when Lagos Garrison Command (as it then was) was upgraded to a full-fledged Division. The Division therefore inherited the security roles hitherto performed by the defunct Lagos Garrison Command.
82 Division formally known as 4 Infantry Division came into existence in August 1975 following a reorganization of the Nigerian Army (NA) in the same year. The 4 Infantry Division formally Lagos Garrison Organization (LGO) was created and located at Abalti Barracks, Lagos in January1964.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello... + Full Story
1. The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to series of Newspaper publications reporting the law suit filed by one Lt Col SS Jock against the President and Commander in Chief; and the Honourable Minister of Defence. According to the reports, Lt Col SS Jock is aggrieved by his trial by Court Martial by the Nigerian Army. The current law suit as reported is filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja. Lt Col Jock had earlier filed a similar suit at the Federal High Court in Kaduna. According to the Newspaper reports, he had abandoned the suit at Kaduna because the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court did not accede to his request to assign the case to a judge of his (Jock) choice.
2. The present Law suit and the attendant newspaper publication are the latest in a series of uncoordinated and disjointed actions by Lt Col Jock to harass and intimidate the Nigerian Army and the judiciary to accede to his requests which have not merit in law. The Nigerian Army is not his only target in his desperate quest to achieve an end known only to him. Other victims of his attack include the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court who was accused of refusing to personally handle the matter. Other Judges of the High Court have not fared any better. All lawyers in Kaduna axis are also accused of being involved in the conspiracy against him. In fact anybody or authority who does not accede to his request, no matter how unlawful will also become a target of his attack.
3. The Nigerian Army is aware that the Officer has also written a petition to the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related offences Commission (ICPC) requesting him to ensure that justice is done in a case he has instituted at the Federal High Court. He wrote this petition with the full knowledge that the ICPC has no supervisory or appellate jurisdiction over the Federal High Court. All these show that the officer knows he has no justifiable case but chose to raise undue publicity in order to draw unwarranted attention and whip up sentiments. The germane question here is “why should the Lt Col Jock keep writing petitions over matters that he has already submitted to a court of competent jurisdiction for adjudication?”

ARMY HOUSING SCHEME STILL ON COURSE
November 2009
PRESS RELEASE
1. The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to the lead story of Daily Sun, Wednesday, November 11, 2009 on Page 4 titled “Mother of All Frauds: Army to Court-Martial General, Colonel Over Multi-Billion Naira Housing Scheme”. The Daily Sun report is not only misleading but a ploy to discredit the Post Service Homes (Savings and Loans) Limited (PHL), in particular and the Nigerian Army as a whole.
2. Please recall that a Press Release was issued by the Army on this issue on 1st April 2009. The release explicitly communicated the Nigerian Army (NA)’s resolve to reposition the PHL housing programme for effective and sustainable service delivery to subscribers. Consequently, an audit of PHL had long been constituted and the findings submitted to the appropriate authorities. However, the recommendations of the audit are yet to be digested by Army Headquarters let alone warrant the setting up of a court-martial to try anybody. Indeed, it could be unnecessarily pre emptive and absolutely erroneous to insinuate that there is large scale fraud in the scheme in the way you have reported the matter.
